Germany vs Portugal betting

Germany

The team to challenge Spain are these Germans in the eyes of many, and they will hope to start quickly in this shorter international tournament. A team that scores 34 goals in qualifying is clearly one competent at the business end of the pitch.

Considering they were full of youth two years ago, they have had time to mature further and blend in even more young stars. They tore England apart, before embarrassing the much fancied Argentina 4-0. That’s just a sign of the class they have in their ranks, quite frankly destroying two of the better sides in world football. A tight affair with Spain settled by a rare Puyol goal kept them from the final.

Since then they have won every game in qualifying, and recently ripped Holland apart in a friendly 3-0. Whilst Spain’s patient passing style is considered the best on the eye, Germany played with a pace and attacking verve that is hard to fault, even in the bitterest eye.

Portugal

You would believe a nation with the attacking talent of not only Cristiano Ronaldo but also Nani would be qualifying automatically for international tournaments. But they were forced to go through the playoffs after they were toppled in the group stages by Denmark.

Inconsistency remains a problem. They hammered World Champions Spain 4-0 at the end of 2010 (who were marginally weakened but still strong), yet straight after lost to Argentina.

It is ridiculous to think of the players they have for them to not qualify automatically. Pepe, Bruno Alves, Raul Meireles, Joao Moutinho, Fabio Coentrao, Nani and Ronaldo are players at the top of their game for big European sides. They are rightfully a scary proposition on a game by game basis, but for some reason it has not clicked for them. Similarly to England these are players following the supposed “Golden Generation”, but those names suggest it should be a golden few generations.

As such, they are one to be feared, and with the shorter format of this competition they can be European Champions with six good performances. But they have yet to show they can string them together.

Match Prediction: Germany Win

There’s bound to be goals in an encounter of teams that have their best talent on show when they are on the front foot. However, Germany have the better defence and the consistent performers, and will win this game. Portugal have found themselves exposed time and again by decent sides, and they come up against one.

A more complete side this time around, Germany will hope to win this group in style. Indeed, this new Germany of recent years refuses to play in any other way, the front foot is the only way for them. And that is how they will win the game. Both teams have pace, and every attack could start on opposition one with counter attacking at a premium, but they are the better side all over and will be able to absorb Portugal’s play much better than Portugal will there’s.

It is still hard to see such attacking sides keeping clean sheets. Ronaldo still needs to show his ability on the big stage, whilst Mr.Tournament Miroslav Klose always does on these occasions.
