Euro 2012 Finals draw

England have been drawn in Group D of Euro 2012 alongside co-hosts Ukraine, France and Sweden. England’s first fixture is against France on 11th June, followed by Sweden, and finishing off against Ukraine.

Although England will be happy to have avoided the so called ‘group of death’, the draw is potentially very difficult. Given England’s poor record in competitive matches against Sweden, the advantage Ukraine have as hosts, and the threat the French side will pose after their victory against the Three Lions at Wembley last year, England will need to be at their very best to progress.

Group A looks the weakest with Poland, Greece, Russia, and Czech Republic. All of these nations either failed to qualify for the last World Cup, or had a disappointing tournament.

The most difficult group is Group B, or the so called ‘Group of death’ where Portugal, Denmark, Holland and Germany will do battle.

Group C is another tough group, with holders Spain facing Italy, Republic of Ireland and Croatia. The opening fixture in this group looks a mouth watering game as Spain take on Italy.
