Despite not making it to the World Cup finals in South Africa, they came third in their qualification group behind local rivals Slovakia and Slovenia, the Czech Republic can boast a decent record in major championships since its separation and formation, particularly  in the

European Championships where they finished as runner-up in 1996 and reached the semi-finals in 2006. They also have produced a succession of brilliant players such as Pavel Nedved and Milan Baros. However, the current team has one notable star and he is standing between the posts, Petr Cech, undeniably one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

Milan

Baros will most probably be called up for the squad along with Arsenal’s now veteran midfielder Tomas Rosicky.

Czech Republic Euro 2012 odds

The Czech Republic stand in a strong 2nd place in their qualifying group behind tournament favourites Spain, their victory against Scotland was an important one, especially after their embarrassing 1-0 defeat at home to Lithuania. However, their next fixture against Spain could prove crucial and if the Czech’s can emerge with a draw they can really cement their position in 2nd and then face up to whatever challenge the  play-off stage may bring. Their odds to qualify are 1.31 on Betfair which is optimistic seeing as they are in a tough group with teams who could all take points off them, with slim odds like that it looks risky but for those of you who have faith in the Czech’s it may be a good shout.

With Petr Cech between the posts and if they make it to the finals the Czech’s are very unlikely to concede a lot of goals so a bet on the amount of clean sheets kept could be a clever one. Additionally a major tournament like this brings with it the possibility of penalty shootouts and with Cech in goal The Czech’s must surely have an advantage. A bet on them winning a penalty shootout may, therefore, be appetising. Ex-Liverpool hitman Milan Baros is arguably the Czech’s most potent threat at goal and with 38 goals in 78 appearances for his national team could be good value to land the golden boot at the finals.
